HPV Vaccine Services at Miles Pharmacy
As there is no treatment available for HPV, prevention through the HPV vaccine can protect against the virus.
The human papillomavirus, commonly known as HPV, is the principal cause of cervical cancer in women which caused the death of 854 women in the UK from 2020 to 2022. According to Cancer Research UK, cervical cancer can be prevented in 99.8% of the cases when issued the HPV Vaccine.
What Is HPV?
HPV is transmitted through sexual contact, and there are about 40 types of HPV that are quite harmful. HPV is often symptomless. Some people have HPV for years without knowing it and it goes away on its own. But for others, it can become more serious and requires medical treatment.
Many people infected with HPV also get genital warts, cervical cancer (in women), and other forms of cancer. However, cancers caused by the papillomavirus can be prevented by the HPV Vaccination which we offer at all our Miles Pharmacy locations including Banstead, Sutton, Stoneleigh, Cheam, Chessington, Epsom, and Worcester Park.

HPV Vaccine Schedule
In England, the recommended HPV vaccine age for both males and females is 12 to 13 years old. This is the age at which young adults are offered the first dose of the HPV vaccination and they receive the second dose after six to 24 months. Miles Pharmacy offers the HPV Vaccination at our Travel Clinic in Epsom, servicing areas Banstead, Sutton, Stoneleigh, Cheam, Chessington, and Worcester Park.
What are the side effects of the HPV Vaccine?
Minor HPV vaccine side effects can occur, similar to most other vaccinations. These side effects include redness, swelling, or pain at the site of the injection, which usually settles within a couple of days. Others side effects anc include bruising, nausea, fever, headaches, and dizziness.
HPV and Genital Warts
All genital warts are caused by an HPV infection. Most genital warts are harmless and clear up without treatment. Although generally harmless, they can be visually unpleasant, and painful and cause distress and embarrassment.
